ohhh the posts about false equivalences between lizzo playing madison’s flute and kim k wearing (and destroying) marilyn monroe’s dress are clearer to me now. okay. i would like to say that an object owned by a slaver, considered precious by the state, and then played by a black woman is a wildly different situation from the dress like erm. what happened with marilyn’s dress is gross and disrespectful as hell but the arguments like “oh bc of textile handling and fitting and-” like no the false equivalence isnt solely because of the differences between the objects but the historical implications like hello.
also if lizzo completely destroyed that flute in the middle of the library of congress in front of half a dozen cameras she wouldnt be doing to madison what kim did to marilyn, not even close. if anything she is more than well within her right to smash that shit to pieces and use the shards to make avant garde jewelry to wear for her tour
